I miss when I was a little kid and I would ask my mom to take me to the public library. I would go with my library card at the ready, my full name scrawled in messy 5-year-old handwriting, the ink perpetually smeared because I could wait to hold it. I would check out as many books as I could carry (maybe my mom did carry a few for me), and then I would read them all in less than a week and just keep going back for more. I miss being small and wandering the impossibly high bookshelves with seeming endless stories and endless information. Meeting other people who were just as enraptured; old and young alike.There is the ghost of that feeling swimming in my brain today and I want to feel that way again, but I know it’ll never be the same. Nostalgia is wonderful, but also dangerous. I am coming to the point where I’m ready to reclaim my intense passion and eagerness for learning anything and everything that has escaped me these past few years.
